LATE SURGERIES AT TOWCESTER
The surgery in Towcester is open until late on the following days; Monday - Wednesday 8.00pm , Thursday – Friday 6.30pm.
BREAST SCREENING The mobile breast screening clinic is now in Towcester situated in the ambulance station car park. All women eligible for screening i.e. over 47 and under 70 will receive a letter inviting them for breast screening at a particular time and date .
SILVERSTONE DISPENSARY Silverstone surgery continues to have a dispensary from which any patients living in villages are able to get their prescriptions. The dispensary also offers a delivery service to any housebound patients. The dispensary remains open all the time the surgery is open, and prescriptions can be collected and ordered as before from Silverstone surgery or by the following methods.
Other ways to order prescriptions: Repeat slip: hand you repeat slip from right side of prescriptions to reception and tick the items required. E mail: Towcester.prescriptions@gp-k83620.nhs.uk silverstone.prescriptions@gp-k83620.nhs.uk

If you wish to collect your prescriptions from Lloyds in the Brook Health Centre or any pharmacy direct, just let the receptionist know and we will record that information on your records to ensure your prescription arrives in the correct place.

Health Visitor Appointments to see the health visitor can be made at Silverstone surgery. Clinics are held on the second Monday afternoon each month.
ENT CLINIC A monthly Ear Nose and Throat Clinic is held at the Brook Health Centre. A specialist from the hospital will be able to see patients referred to this department locally instead of traveling to hospital
PATIENT PARTICIPATION GROUP The next meeting is planned for Thursday 24th June at which there will be a talk on Diabetes awareness. Please contact Julia Jones at the surgery if you are interested in joining our group. The aim of the group is to get feedback and join in general discussions on how we can provide the best service to our patients. We meet approximately every 2 months and are planning topical discussions.
Diabetic Retinal Screening This is now being held at the practice every Wednesday afternoon. If you are eligible for this screening programme you will receive a letter inviting you to attend.
PATIENT ACCESS TO MEDICAL RECORDS In accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998 patients are entitled to request to see their medical records. The records can be viewed on the computer in the presence of a clinician or a copy can be printed and collected from the practice reception. The request must be made in writing with a signature to the Practice Manager and will be dealt with within 21 days. A GP may refuse the right to release the medical records of a patient in certain circumstances. A fee of £10 will be charged for a copy of electronic medical records and £50 will be charged for copies of paper records.
Missed Appointments In May 112 appointments were booked by patients who did not attend and in April the figure was 126! This not only costs the NHS thousands of pounds but wastes clinician time and prevents other patients who may urgently need an appointment from getting one. PLEASE, PLEASE let us know if you cannot attend even if it is 30mins before hand. Patients who continually miss appointments may be asked to leave the practice.
THE BROOK HEALTH CENTRE WEB SITE You may BOOK APPOINTMENTS ON LINE AND ORDER PRESCRIPTIONS via the web site. Please ask the receptionist to register you for the process. You will then be given a login and password which enables you to access our advanced bookings for appointments and prescription ordering service.
Cryo Clinic We run a clinic for removal of minor skin complaints. Liquid nitrogen is used for this process. Appointments will be shorter and patients are asked not to discuss any other problems with the doctor at this clinic. The doctor or nurse will book appointments for the cryo clinic after they have seen the relevant clinician and had an assessment of the skin condition .
Breast Feeding Support Group The Breast feeding Support Group is held on a Monday morning 11-12.30 in the Health Education Rm, 1st floor. This is a drop in session, open to all breast feeding mums. It provides peer support and a venue to meet other breast feeding mums. Health visitors and a breast feeding counselor are also available during those sessions.
BABY CLINIC This is held on a Wednesday morning 10.30-12 in the Health Education Room.
Baby weighing scales: You may weigh your baby in the Health education room at other times to the baby clinic. The only time is may not be possible is if the room is in use by another group.
FAMILY PLANNING CLINIC There is a Family Planning/Gynae clinic held on a Monday evening from 4.30pm. If you wish to be seen or have any queries about this, please ring reception.
APPOINTMENTS – TIPS TO HELP YOU PLEASE NOTE WE CAN BOOK APPOINTMENTS FOR YOU UP TO 6 WEEKS IN ADVANCE.
BOOK ON THE DAY APPOINTMENTS: This is a clinic run jointly by the duty doctor and nurse daily in the mornings. This is available for patients to be seen on the day when they ring for emergencies. You will be seen by a doctor and/or nurse.
TELEPHONE CONSULTATIONS The doctors and nurses are available to talk to any patients who may request it. Please ring and the receptionist will be pleased to put your name on the list for the doctor or nurse to call you back at the end of surgery
PARKING Please be aware that patrols are being carried out to monitor parking in this area. The following parking offences each carry a fixed £30 penalty:
Obstruction of the pavement Obstruction of a bus stop Obstruction of the road Parking on a junction Swine Flu for Travellers People travelling to the southern hemisphere including the World Cup in South Africa where the flu season starts shortly can be vaccinated against swine flu to prevent catching the virus and from bringing it back home.Although new cases of swine flu in England remain at their lowest level since it first appeared, small numbers contine to be hospitalized and admitted to critical care. Patients should protect themselves by getting the vaccine well before travelling.
Infertility Clinic A new infertility clinic started at the Towcester surgery from in May and be held once a month. Patients referred for initial infertility investigations in Northampton will have the option to be seen locally instead.
